The Shine Resource Base supports pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and a diagnosis of autism within the setting of Furze Platt Senior School. Pupils with an allocated place in the base are taught in mainstream classes for the majority of their timetable with specialist Teaching Assistant support. Pupils take an active part in school life attending a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities.
The Shine Team Resource Base staff comprises of three specialist teachers and five specialist Teaching Assistants. A range of professionals work with the team and pupils to assist in assessment and monitoring of progress including: Educational Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists. Pupils receive specialist teaching in the base in place of agreed subject lessons, during these lessons they follow an individual programme which may include:
- Additional literacy/numeracy support (if required)
- Homework support
- Lifeskills
- Social Skills
- Speech & Language Therapy (if required)
- Occupational Therapy
- Sensory integration Support
The resource base is also a place for pupils to eat and socialise in a quiet, supportive atmosphere.
